FAQ & COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS

We understand that there are misconceptions surrounding Private Investigations, Open Source Intelligence (OSINT), Identity Management, and Security Guard Services. Here are some of the most common questions we receive:

  • Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) involves collecting and analyzing publicly available information to generate actionable insights, impacting your security posture by enhancing threat detection, situational awareness, and risk management. It aids in identifying potential risks by monitoring online platforms and assessing the credibility of individuals or transactions through due diligence investigations. OSINT also highlights privacy vulnerabilities, enabling stronger identity management practices, and supports incident response by providing context and information about security breaches.

EVERY effective cyber and physical attack starts with a reconnaissance phase. By hardening your digital and Open Source footprint, you can deny this reconnaissance phase for an adversary, reduce your attack surface, and thwart potential threats from becoming full-blown incidents requiring an immediate and expensive response. This is proactive defense for the Digital Age.

  • The OSMOSIS Institute (https://osmosisinstitute.org/osc/) has established the world’s leading association for Open-Source investigators, addressing the rapidly evolving landscape of online investigations and open-source intelligence across numerous jurisdictions and investigative fields globally. To standardize the profession and affirm that members are Legal, Ethical, and Competent in investigating and analyzing Publicly Available Information, the Institute created the Open-Source Certification (OSC). Scout Investigators proudly hold this certification and comply with legal and ethical standards in Texas and beyond.

  • FALSE! Although completely removing information from the internet poses challenges, there are actions you can take to control and minimize your online presence. These steps encompass requesting removals from websites and data brokers, employing privacy tools, modifying privacy settings on social media platforms, utilizing Google's removal tools, exploring legal redaction options, and consistently monitoring and refreshing your online data. These measures can notably decrease the exposure of your personal information and alleviate privacy and security concerns.
